1930 – The first reference in literature of electronic cigarettes.
1960 – Creation of first vaping device which resembles current electronic cigarettes.
1990s – Patents of nicotine inhaled delivery devices filed. No FDA approval of any device
2003 – Creation of first commercially available electronic cigarette
2006 – electronic cigarettes introduced into the United States
2008 – WHO decided that electronic cigarettes are not a viable smoking
cessation aid and should not be marketed as such
2009 – As such, the FDA placed an import alert on vaporizers and directed customs to reject their entry
2011 - FDA changes stance, and opts to regulate e-cigarettes as it currently regulates traditional cigarettes and other tobacco products under the Food Drug and Cosmetics Act. However, any vaporizer brand or electronic cigarette manufacturer advertising and popularizing claims that e-cigs have health benefits or smoking cessation help will be regulated as a medical device not nicotine product
2016 - FDA's final deeming regulations issued. The final deeming regulations officially published May 10, 2016, effective 90 days later on August 8, 2016.
Since 2016, the vaporizer market has evolved markedly especially with the advent of disposable vape devices. Although the history of the vaping industry has changed, the fact that nicotine is an addictive chemical hasn’t.
